For a decade, Google reviews lived in one category. SEO. They moved your Google Business Profile up the local pack. They helped you show up when someone searched pest control near me. That was the role.
That has changed.
Reviews are now also a creative lever on paid social. Putting the review count directly on a Meta ad creative lowers CPL on cold traffic. We have seen it across every home service vertical we run. Pest, electrical, junk removal, landscaping, window cleaning. Same effect every time. The more review proof on the ad, the lower the CPL.
This is not a small lift. We routinely see CPL drop 20 to 40 percent on creatives that lead with a review count versus the same hook without one.
Meta is showing your ad to a cold audience. The viewer has 1 to 2 seconds to decide whether to keep watching or scroll.
A static image with a generic offer says nothing. A static image with one thousand five star Google reviews stamped on it says something. It tells the viewer that 999 other people have already done the thing the ad is asking them to do. That is social proof on the ad surface itself, before they even click.
The cold viewer does not have time to go check your reviews. They will not visit your Google Business Profile mid scroll. The only chance you get to surface the proof is in the first frame of the ad.
That is why putting the review count on the creative matters more than putting it on the landing page. By the time they hit the landing page, you have already won the click. The creative is where the social proof has to live.
Three rules for review proof on creative.
Rule one. Use the actual number. One thousand reviews. Eight hundred forty seven reviews. Four hundred and twelve reviews. Specific numbers convert better than ranges. Do not write Hundreds Of Five Star Reviews. Write Eight Hundred And Forty Seven Five Star Reviews.
Rule two. Pair the count with the average rating. One thousand five star reviews. Eight hundred reviews at 4.7 stars. The combination of volume and quality is what builds trust. Volume alone reads as suspicious. Quality alone reads as small operation.
Rule three. Update the creative quarterly. Reviews compound. The creative that worked at 400 reviews works even better at 600. Refresh the static image, refresh the video bumper, refresh the landing page header. Three minutes of work for a meaningful CPL lift.
If you are a newer company with fewer than 50 reviews, this strategy does not work yet. You cannot put 23 reviews on a creative and expect it to lift conversion. The number is too low to register as proof.
There is a workaround. Run a white label landing page.
Position yourself as a quote shopper or service matching service. We help homeowners find the best price on window cleaning in your area. We compare pest control quotes from top rated providers near you. The framing is middleman. The reality is you are the one servicing the job on the back end.
This works for 60 to 90 days while you build real review volume. It is not a forever strategy. It is the bridge between brand new and enough social proof to run direct.
The legal piece matters here. Make sure the landing page does not misrepresent who is doing the service. We are licensed and we will be doing the work. The framing is around the offer, not around the legal entity.
A high performing pest control ad in 2026 has 4 elements on the first frame.
Element one. A hook that names the pain. Mosquitoes ruining your backyard. Roaches in your kitchen at 2am.
Element two. A specific offer. Free first spray. Sixty dollar mosquito add on.
Element three. A guarantee or risk reversal. We hit it or you pay nothing.
Element four. Social proof number. One thousand five star reviews. Twelve years in business.
Most home service ads have one of these four. The ones that have three or four are the ones converting at half the market CPL.
Open your current Meta ad creatives. Count how many have a review number on them. If the answer is none, your CPL is leaking and the fix is a one hour design pass.
Pull your current Google review count. Update your top 3 creatives with the count and the star rating. Run them for 7 days alongside your current creatives. Measure CPL.
For newer brands, build the quote shopper page this week. Run it for the next 90 days while you build review volume in parallel.
